Product Summary

Becodefence Allergy Defence 140 Sprays provides fast and effective defence against hay fever symptoms.

It gets to work in 3 minutes and works 5 times faster than hay fever tablets.

Drug-free nasal barrier spray: does not contain steroids or antihistamines

Suitable for athletes, pregnant and breastfeeding women

Suitable for adults and children over 12 years

Use at the first sign of symptoms, or to prevent hay fever symptoms such as:

  • sneezing
  • runny nose
  • nasal congestion
  • itchy/watery eyes

Becodefence works by defusing pollen rapidly, allowing for quick clearance of allergens.

It also forms a microgel barrier to prevent against further irritation.

Directions

Please read enclosed leaflet carefully before use.

Use only as directed.

Use Becodefence as soon as the first symptoms occur, before the allergic reaction has fully developed.

  • Before use, shake vigorously 4 times upright & 4 times upside down to activate the suspension.
  • Before first use, prime the pump by doing small sprays in the air: press the white applicator down for 5-10 seconds, then release.
  • Repeat until a full spray is obtained.
  • Apply 1 to 2 sprays into each nostril, 2 to 3 times a day (works for up to 6 hours)
  • Tilt head slightly forward. Holding the bottle upright, insert the tip fully into nostril and spray once.
  • Spray once more if necessary.
  • Do this for both nostrils.
  • Tilt the head backwards briefly after application and breathe normally through your nose.
  • For maximum effectiveness, use Becodefence before the onset of an allergic reaction.

Pharmacist FAQs Answered

What is Becodefence used for?

Hay fever. In other words, the upper respiratory symptoms result from inhaling allergens - most commonly pollen. Think of the stuffy nose, sneezing fit, nose that won't stop running, and gritty, scratchy eyes. Becodefence is not treating the immune response; it's silencing the stimulus.

How does Becodefence work?

It's not medicated. No antihistamines. No corticosteroids. It uses a patented microgel technology to create a physical barrier in the nasal passages. That gel traps allergens and flushes them out faster than your body usually does. The suspension initiates a pH shift, which causes pollen particles to aggregate, reducing their ability to bind to IgE on mast cells. You get fewer histamine cascades. Less inflammation. Less irritation.

How rapidly does Becodefence take to work?

Three minutes. Not an estimate - timed. Compared to oral antihistamines, which take an hour, it's a big deal if you're already symptomatic. Used pre-emptively, it can significantly reduce the frequency or intensity of symptoms.

Who can use Becodefence?

Anyone aged over 12. Safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, which is a bonus as a lot of regular hay fever medication is contraindicated in those groups. No WADA-flagged products, so fine for competitive sports individuals.

Who shouldn't use Becodefence?

Steer clear if you are allergic to sesame seed oil. It is an excipient and also in itself an allergen. It is not suitable for you if you're a frequent nosebleeder—this mechanical barrier spray comes out dry long-term and may irritate mucosa.

How do you use Becodefence?

Shake the bottle hard. Four times straight up, four times in reverse. You're re-suspending the gel; if you get this wrong, it will never come out right in the nose. Prime until a clean, even mist comes out.

Then:

  • Tilt your head slightly forward
  • Spray once or twice in each nostril
  • Tilt your head slightly back and breathe normally

You’ll need to repeat this two to three times per day. Each application lasts up to six hours.

Can Becodefence be used with antihistamines?

Yes. Completely different mechanism of action. One is a pharmacological blockade of histamine receptors; the other is mechanical pollen exclusion. Using both can be effective if symptoms are severe or unpredictable. Always check compatibility with other intranasal sprays, though- layering too many can irritate the outer layer.

Any Side effects?

Mild and rare. If you’re going to react, it’ll usually show up as local irritation - stinging, itching, maybe some congestion or dryness. If symptoms escalate (rash, facial swelling, breathing issues), that’s likely a true allergic response. Discontinue and seek medical advice.

Any storage issues?

Keep it dry and cool. Don't refrigerate, but don't let it sit in the car on a hot summer day. Freezing destroys the suspension. Cap it very tight - air exposure thickens the gel and degrades spray quality.

How long does one bottle of Becodefence typically last?

140 sprays. Three times daily, two sprays in each nostril are roughly two weeks' worth. But it depends on how often you use it. Some individuals use it more on high-pollen days and scale back when indoors or out of season.

What else do people need to know?

This is not therapeutic. It doesn't desensitize the immune system or stop hay fever in the long run. It's a physical block. Used correctly, it can reduce reliance on other medication or be an add-on for remaining symptomatic. But technique matters - if individuals miss the shake, don't apply enough, or apply too late, results drop sharply.
