Pharmacist FAQs Answered
What is Becodefence Kids Nasal Spray used for?
Children's hay fever aged 6 to 12. Nasal symptoms due to pollen, specifically sneezing, congestion, runny nose, and watery or itchy eyes. It's not a cure for the immune response itself - it's a preventative barrier that stops the allergen from getting in before it causes problems.
How does Becodefence Kid's Nasal Spray work?
It's not chemical but mechanical. The spray forms a microgel in the nose that traps pollen and other airborne allergens. Once trapped, they're flushed out more efficiently by the nasal cilia. There's also an instantaneous pH shift upon contact with mucus, which causes pollen particles to clump together, becoming less reactive and more straightforward to eliminate. No antihistamines. No corticosteroids.
How long before Becodefence Kids Nasal Spray starts working?
Three minutes. That's the timed onset of action. Oral antihistamines usually take 30–60 minutes, so this is a good option when you need something quick and localised. Each dose lasts about six hours.
Who is Becodefence Kids Nasal Spray for?
Children aged 6–12 years. It's safe, non-sedating, and won't affect school or sports. It's also safe for children with asthma, but always under adult supervision.
Any restrictions with Becodefence Kids Nasal Spray
Don't use if the child is allergic to sesame seed oil—it's in the mix. There have been rare reports of localised allergic reactions: nasal itching, swelling, discomfort, and even rash. If this happens, stop using and see a GP. Not for use under 6 years old.
How do you use Becodefence Kids Nasal Spray?
The technique is essential.
- Blow the nose first.
- Shake the bottle vigorously: 4 times upright, 4 times upside down. This re-suspends the gel.
- Prime it: press for 5–10 seconds until a full spray is visible.
Application:
- Bend the head slightly forward.
- Insert the nozzle entirely into the nostril.
- Spray once or twice in each nostril.
- Briefly head back and breathe normally through the nose.
- Repeat two to three times a day, depending on symptoms and pollen counts.
Can Becodefence Kids Nasal Spray be taken with other allergy meds?
Yes. This is a barrier spray, not a medication. It can be used alongside antihistamines or sodium cromoglicate eye drops. Don't use it stacked on other nasal sprays unless told to—too many intranasal drugs will dry out the mucosa or irritate it.
Any Side Effects to Becodefence Kids Nasal Spray?
Minimal. If it does occur, it's usually mild and local - dryness, minor discomfort, and maybe some extra congestion after use. That resolves quickly. If symptoms worsen or last longer than a few days, consult your doctor.
Any storage tips?
Store below 27°C. No refrigeration is needed; don't leave it in heat or freeze it. Recap tightly after use. Once opened, it is stable for the pollen season if stored properly.
How long does one bottle last?
280 sprays in each bottle. Assuming 1 spray into each nostril, 2-3 times daily, that's approximately 35 to 70 days of regular use, depending on the frequency. Excellent for seeing you through high allergy season without needing refills.
Is there anything else you'd like to know?
Children forget to blow their nose first - that step's crucial. If the spray is put over mucus, it won't form a good barrier. Besides, it works best when applied before symptoms are in full force. Timing matters.
