Pharmacist FAQs Answered
What Is E45 Cream Used For?
E45 Cream is a trusted moisturising treatment designed to relieve dry, flaky, or itchy skin. It helps manage common skin issues like eczema, mild forms of psoriasis, chapped skin, and irritation caused by things like cleaning products or sun exposure. It forms a gentle layer over the skin to lock in moisture and prevent further dryness. This non-greasy formula is easy to apply and works quickly to soothe discomfort.
Is E45 Cream Safe for Everyone?
Yes, E45 Cream is suitable for most people, including babies over one month old, children, and adults. It’s free from perfumes and has been tested by skin experts, making it a good choice for sensitive skin. However, if you’re allergic to ingredients like lanolin, paraffin, or preservatives such as E216 or E218, it’s best to test a small area first or ask a healthcare professional. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your doctor before use.
How Do You Use E45 Cream?
Apply a small amount of E45 Cream to the affected area two to three times a day, or more if needed. Make sure the skin is clean and dry first. Gently rub it in until fully absorbed. If symptoms don’t improve after a few days, speak to a doctor or pharmacist. It can be used daily to manage long-term skin issues or as needed for temporary dryness or irritation.
What Are the Ingredients in E45 Cream?
E45 Cream contains three active moisturising ingredients: white soft paraffin, light liquid paraffin, and anhydrous lanolin (also known as Medilan). These help soften the skin and reduce water loss. The formula also contains preservatives like methyl hydroxybenzoate (E218) and propyl hydroxybenzoate (E216), which help keep the cream safe to use but can occasionally cause allergic reactions.
What Else Should You Know About E45 Cream?
E45 Cream is non-greasy and absorbs quickly, leaving your skin feeling neither sticky nor oily. You can use it on your face and body, but avoid getting it in your eyes. If you’re applying large amounts regularly, be aware that the cream can soak into clothing and pose a fire risk. Always change clothes and bedding regularly and stay away from open flames or smoking. Store the cream below 25°C and out of reach of children.
