Product Summary

UV light is the main cause of sun-induced skin damage, but high-energy visible (HEVIS) light can also induce free radicals that cause further stress to the skin.

Eucerin Sun Allergy Protect Sun Crème Gel SPF50 is a face and body sunscreen specially formulated for skin prone to sun-induced allergies such as Polymorphous Light Eruption (PLE).

The Advanced Spectral Technology combines broadband and photostable UVA/UVB filters1 for high UV protection with Licochalcone A to neutralize free radicals caused by UV and HEVIS light.

It also contains Alpha-Glycosylrutin which helps to prevent sun-induced allergies such as PLE.

Unperfumed, to minimise the risk of skin irritation, the non-greasy and non-sticky creme-gel absorbs quickly and is water-resistant.

Meets the high standards for UVA and UVB protection defined by Cosmetics Europe. The levels of UVA protection are higher than the EU recommendation.

Pharmacist FAQs Answered

How does this sunscreen help in sun allergies like PLE (Polymorphous Light Eruption)?

Eucerin Sun Allergy Protect SPF 50+ protects individuals with sun allergy-prone skin, especially those suffering from Polymorphous Light Eruption (PLE). PLE causes red, stinging bumps or rashes on the skin after exposure to the sun, especially during spring or summer. This sun lotion contains Alpha-Glycosylrutin, a special antioxidant that reduces the risk of such reactions by making your skin more resistant to UV radiation. Combined with Licochalcone A, which calms redness and neutralises free radicals generated by HEVIS light, the composition helps inhibit allergic reactions. Its top SPF of 50+ blocks most UVB rays, reducing the stress that can lead to allergy breakouts. It's also non-greasy and unperfumed, reducing irritation while keeping your skin comfortable in the sun.

Can this product be applied daily to sensitive skin?

Yes, this sunscreen suits people with sensitive or easily irritated skin. It has been clinically tested for safety and can be used daily on the body and face. The formula is fragrance-free, containing no added fragrances that might irritate sensitive skin. It's also allergen-free and absorbs quickly, so that it won't leave a sticky or greasy residue. Whether you're spending the day at the beach or running errands, this product provides broad-spectrum protection without the side effects that other sunscreens can cause. Used daily, it helps prevent long-term skin damage that can cause redness, dryness, and sun-induced conditions like sunburn.

In what ways is this sunscreen different from standard SPF products?

This sunscreen offers protection beyond the SPF—it includes protection against UVA, UVB, and HEVIS (High-Energy Visible Light), which, respectively, cause damage to the skin, increase the risk of skin cancer, lead to sun allergy, and affect the skin without causing immediate darkening. Most sunscreens used daily protect only against UVB (the burning rays) and little UVA. Eucerin's Advanced Spectral Technology provides a broader defence by neutralising free radicals that destroy skin cells and cause inflammation or allergic reactions. It's also water-resistant, so it lasts through swimming or sweating. The combination of sun protection and calming antioxidants makes it a more sophisticated choice, especially if your skin is extremely sensitive to the sun or prone to irritation.

How do I apply this sunscreen for maximum protection?

Use a generous amount of sunscreen 15–30 minutes before heading outside for complete protection. Use enough to cover all the skin on your face and body that's exposed to the sun evenly. Make sure to reapply at least every two hours, or more often if you've been swimming, sweating, or drying off with a towel. Remember to apply it to areas like the ears, feet, or neck, which tend to be overlooked but are just as vulnerable to the sun. Applying too little product gives a much less impressive level of protection than SPF 50+. Allow it to soak thoroughly before wearing or sitting on cloth, as it stains. Properly used, this sunscreen guards your skin and reduces sun allergy reactions.

Can this product be safely used by teenagers and older children?

This sunscreen is safe for teenagers and older children, especially those with sun allergy history or sensitive skin. Its composition is gentle and non-irritating, making it suitable for application in family environments during holidays or outdoors. Teenagers likely spend long hours outdoors—at the beach, playing sports, or on foot to school - using high-protection SPF 50+ suncreen can guard against long-term sun damage and avert skin disorders resulting from UV radiation. For young children (under 3 years old), it's always better to consult a doctor or pharmacist and ask about suitable sun care products for their age.

What do I do if my skin still stings from the sun after using this?

Experience itching, redness, or a rash after applying the sunscreen and going outdoors. It may be due to excessive sun sensitivity or a sun allergy reaction if your skin was already sensitive. In these instances, remove the sunscreen by gently washing the skin with a mild soap and apply a soothing after-sun lotion, such as Eucerin After Sun Sensitive Relief. Protect your skin from the sun and allow it to recover. Itching can also be alleviated with an antihistamine; you may need to consult a pharmacist for advice first. If it doesn't improve within one or two days, or if the reaction is too strong, speak to your doctor or dermatologist for guidance. Sun allergies may require balancing sun protection with soothing skincare.
