Pharmacist FAQs Answered
How does Feminax Express ease period pain and cramps?
Feminax Express Tablets are specially designed to provide fast relief from period pain, including cramps, backache, muscular aches, and headaches. The active ingredient, ibuprofen lysine, works by reducing inflammation and blocking the chemicals in your body that cause pain and swelling. This will also lessen the pain of the cramps and make you feel more comfortable so you can get back to school, sports, or just chillin' at home. Most people start to feel better within 30 minutes of taking the tablet. However, remember that everyone's body is different, so it may take a little longer for some.
You should swallow the tablets with or after food and always with water. This will protect your stomach and also make the medicine work better. If your cramps are really bad and don't improve after a few days of taking Feminax Express, you should see your doctor to make sure there's no other medical issue causing the pain.
How and when can I safely take Feminax Express Tablets?
It is crucial to use Feminax Express properly to be effective and avoid any unwanted side effects. The recommended starting dose for adolescents aged 12 to 18 years is 1 or 2 tablets, taken with water, preferably with food. You can take an additional 1 or 2 tablets every 4 hours as needed, but do not exceed 6 tablets in 24 hours.
Feminax Express is only for short-term use. If you need to take it for longer than 3 days or if your symptoms worsen, consult a doctor. Never take Feminax Express on an empty stomach. Always read the leaflet in the box before starting. If you accidentally take too many tablets, tell an adult straight away and get medical help.
Can I take Feminax Express with other medicines?
You need to be careful when you are taking Feminax Express together with other medicines. You should not take it with any other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like aspirin or naproxen because this can cause serious problems like stomach ulcers or bleeding. You also need to be careful if you are taking cold and flu remedies because most of them already contain painkillers like ibuprofen or paracetamol.
However, you can use non-medicine remedies like hot water bottles, heating pads, gentle exercises, or relaxation techniques with Feminax Express to relieve your period pain. Always ask your doctor or pharmacist if you're unsure about using treatments together.
What side effects should I look out for?
Most people take Feminax Express without any problems, but like all medicines, it can occasionally cause some side effects. The most common side effects are an upset stomach, dizziness, nausea (feeling sick), or heartburn. These effects are usually mild and go away on their own.
More unusual but more severe side effects include bleeding in the stomach, serious allergic reactions (like swelling of the face, lips, or difficulty breathing), or extremely severe skin reactions. If you notice black, sticky stools, vomit that resembles coffee grounds, or a rash with blisters, you must get medical help right away. Always tell a trusted adult if you don't feel well after taking any medicine.
To minimise the risk of side effects, always take the tablets after food and with the lowest dose for the shortest time possible.
When do I need to stop taking Feminax Express and see a doctor?
While Feminax Express is great for mild to moderate period pain, there are a few times when you should stop taking it and see a doctor.
You should see a doctor if:
- You must take Feminax Express for over 3 days.
- Your pain worsens instead of improving after taking the tablets.
- You experience hefty bleeding (soaking your pad or tampon every hour).
- You experience pain outside your period (such as mid-month cramps).
- You become very unwell or experience unusual symptoms such as chest pain, breathlessness, or profound tiredness.
Early medical advice can also identify more serious conditions like endometriosis, fibroids, or pelvic inflammatory disease, which can also lead to more serious period pain that needs specialist treatment.
