    Pharmacist FAQs Answered

What is GoldenEye 0.15% Eye Ointment used for?

GoldenEye 0.15% Eye Ointment is used to treat minor bacterial eye infections, such as conjunctivitis (also known as "pink eye") and blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids). It contains the antiseptic dibrompropamidine isethionate, which stops bacteria causing the infection from growing. The ointment is suitable for use in adults and children over 2 years old. It makes symptoms such as redness, soreness, itchiness, and stringy discharge disappear. If used correctly, it can clear minor infections in no time. If your symptoms do not get better within 48 hours, or get worse, stop using the ointment and visit a doctor or chemist.

How do I use GoldenEye Ointment safely and effectively?

To apply GoldenEye ointment, wash your hands first. Lean your head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid. Squeeze about 1 cm of ointment into the inner corner of the lower lid without touching the eye or lashes with the tube. Close your eyes and roll them in different directions to help spread the ointment. Wipe off excess with a new tissue. Apply once or twice a day. After use, you may find that your vision blurs—wait for it to return before driving or using machinery. Recap the tube always after use.

Can I wear contact lenses if I use GoldenEye Ointment?

No, do not wear contact lenses when you use GoldenEye Ointment. Ointment ingredients have a tendency to stick to lenses and may cause eye irritation or hamper the treatment's effectiveness. If you use contact lenses regularly, remove them before applying the ointment and do not wear them until your treatment is complete and your eyes have fully recovered. If you're unsure when it's safe to resume using them, consult your pharmacist or optician.

Can GoldenEye Ointment have any side effects or risks?

Most people tolerate GoldenEye Ointment. The most common side effect is short-term blurring of vision after use. A mild stinging or irritation sensation may be noticed in some cases. These usually resolve shortly. If your eyes become more inflamed, hurt, or red, or your symptoms do not improve after 2 days, stop using the ointment and consult a doctor. Avoid using this product if you are allergic to one or more of its ingredients. Always handle the instructions carefully to prevent contamination or misuse.

How do I store and dispose of GoldenEye Ointment?

Keep GoldenEye Ointment in a dry place out of sight of children below 25°C, and have the cap tightly closed on each occasion of use. Once opened, it should be disposed of within 4 weeks to avoid the risk of contamination. Do not use it after the expiry date on the packaging. Do not throw used tubes away in the trash or down the drain—ask your pharmacist how to dispose of unused medication properly. Keep the ointment out of the reach and sight of children at all times.
