How it works
Any break in the skin sends signals to your body to repair the injury. To heal the wound, the blood clots and specialised cells called fibroblasts are sent to the site to produce collagen and bind the skin back together. Sometimes the healing skin forms excessive, unorganised collagen bundles that push upwards and form a reddened, raised and hard scar.
KELO‐COTE® can help to minimise your scar’s appearance. KELO‐COTE®’s advanced Siliclear complex is a blend of silicones that cross‐link and bond to the outer layer of your skin, drying within minutes and providing up to 24 hours of protection and treatment.
The silicone layer also acts to create an optimal environment for your healing scar by regulating moisture levels and collagen production in the skin as well as forming a protective barrier against chemical, physical and microbial invasion of the scar site.
This flexible, breathable layer improves the physiological and cosmetic appearance of the scar, helping to give the scar a flatter, softer and less noticeable appearance.

Pharmacist FAQs Answered
Why is Kelo-Cote different to other scar products?
Kelo-Cote stands out since it incorporates clinically tested silicone-based technology with SPF30 sun protection. Other scar treatments only address healing, but Kelo-Cote heals the scar and also protects it from the sun, a major contributor to further redness and colouring. It dries instantly into a weightless, colourless, water-resistant film that lasts up to 24 hours with two applications daily. Such a combination of scar care and sunblock makes it very effective in treating scars frequently exposed to sunlight, like on the face, arms, or hands. It's also suitable for children over 3 months.
How does Kelo-Cote help improve the appearance of scars?
Kelo-Cote helps by creating an environment of healing under management. The silicone layer holds moisture, protects against bacteria, and supports controlled collagen growth. This is essential in preventing the abnormal formation of collagen that leads to keloid or hypertrophic scars, which are raised, stiff, and sometimes itchy. By supporting balance in the healing process, Kelo-Cote enables the scar to heal flatter, softer, and less red, gradually blending into the normal skin. It is best suited for new and mature scars and typically shows visible improvement within 60–90 days, but continuous use can improve results further.
Who is Kelo-Cote suitable for?
Kelo-Cote is best suited for adults and children over 3 months, even for sensitive skin. It is utilised most commonly after operations (even c-sections), burns, injuries, or wounds that produce scars. It's not invasive and will not require massaging or applying pressure, making it ideal for healing or sensitive skin. Even with other topical remedies or makeup, the non-greasy, quickly drying coat of Kelo-Cote can be used as a base without compromising. But it's not suitable for open wounds or skin conditions that violate the skin's surface. If unsure, consult your healthcare professional.
How soon can I start using Kelo-Cote, and how long before it starts to work?
You can start using Kelo-Cote as soon as your skin has healed thoroughly and any stitches have fallen out. The earlier you use it, the better it can influence how your scar heals. Apply a thin layer twice daily—morning and at night—without rubbing it into the skin. You should typically notice softness, redness, and texture enhancement after consistently using it for 2 to 3 months. More severe or older scars may take a little longer. Because it's water-resistant and breathable, it keeps working the whole day without requiring reapplication unless washed away or wiped off.
What are my precautions when I use Kelo-Cote?
For best results and to avoid issues, ensure the area is free of dirt and dry first. A very thin layer will be sufficient—more won't speed up healing and might affect how it dries. Let it dry completely before dressing, applying makeup, or sunscreen. If it doesn't dry within 5 minutes, you likely put on too much. Avoid using on open wounds, unhealed burns, or near eyes or mucous membranes. Discontinue use if irritation occurs and advise your doctor. Store away from the sun and children.
