Pharmacist FAQs Answered

How does Lamisil Once destroy athlete's foot with a one-dose?

Lamisil Once contains terbinafine hydrochloride, an antifungal medication that destroys the fungus of athlete's foot by stopping it from multiplying. The variation with this product is that you only apply it once. The medication stays on the skin and destroys the infection for days following drying. It travels downward into the fungus, even though symptoms like itching or redness may take a couple of days longer to resolve.

How do I use Lamisil Once most effectively?

Apply all the tube contents on both feet, whether one foot looks infected or not. Clean and dry your feet very thoroughly first. Then, using your fingers, spread the solution between, under, and over all of your toes, and on the soles and sides of both feet. Let the solution dry completely—just a few minutes. Next, wash your hands well with soap and water. Do not wash your feet for 24 hours after applying. This gives the medicine time to soak in thoroughly and work under the skin.

Why do I need to treat both feet if only one of them seems to be infected?

Fungal infections like athlete's foot usually start on one foot but can spread rapidly to the second foot, even before signs and symptoms are evident. Treatment of both feet avoids the recurrence or further spread of the infection. Proper hygiene practices, including daily sock changes and foot drying, are also important.

What should I do if my symptoms do not clear?

Although most people start to feel better in a few days, the skin might take up to a week or longer to completely recover. If your symptoms do not improve after 7 days or worsen, you should discuss this with your pharmacist or physician. You may require an alternative treatment or a longer course of antifungal tablets.

Can children or adolescents use Lamisil Once?

No. Lamisil Once should not be used by anyone under 18 years of age. This is because it has not been tested in children and young people to ensure that it's safe and effective for them. Your pharmacist can recommend a suitable alternative if a young person suffers from athlete's foot.

Are there any safety precautions or things to avoid?

Yes. Lamisil Once is to be used externally on the skin. Don't swallow it or put it on your face or eyes. If you get it in your eyes, rinse them well with plenty of water and consult your doctor if you have persistent irritation. Do not apply the product while breastfeeding; never use it to cut skin. Avoid washing or wetting your feet for 24 hours after applying it, as this reduces its effect.
