Pharmacist FAQs Answered

How does Lansinoh Therapearl help with mastitis?

Lansinoh Therapearl packs are specially designed to offer both hot and cold therapy, depending on your breastfeeding needs. When used warmly, the packs help open up milk ducts and encourage milk flow, particularly if you’re dealing with plugged ducts or mastitis. Heat boosts circulation, reduces breast tightness, and enables smoother milk let-down, reducing pressure and infection risk. Microwave is based on wattage instructions, so always place the pack in its fabric cover before use. A warm compress before feeding or pumping can be soothing and enable more efficient milk expression.

Is cold therapy more effective than warm therapy for breast engorgement?

Warm and cold therapy can be helpful for engorgement for different reasons. Cold treatment with Lansinoh Therapearl is ideal for reducing swelling, pain, and inflammation of the breasts. If your breasts are swollen, hard, and tender between feedings, the packs used cold (after being in the freezer for at least two hours) can help alleviate that. On the other hand, warm therapy is optimally used just before breastfeeding or pumping to promote milk flow. Depending on whether they need immediate relief or increased milk let-down, a few mums alternate between the two. Always use for up to 20 minutes maximum per use.

Can I reuse the Lansinoh Therapearl packs? How long do they last?

Yes, Lansinoh Therapearl 3-in-1 packs are reusable and designed to last throughout your breastfeeding journey. With proper care—such as following heating guidelines, not exceeding time limits, and storing them properly in a cool, dry location—they can be used for several months. Always inspect the packs for any sign of damage or leaks before using them. If a pack is punctured or the gel inside begins to leak, it must be discarded immediately. Regular hand washing of the soft fabric covers is also recommended to keep the packs clean and hygienic for continued use on sensitive skin.

Can the Therapearl packs be used while pumping?

One of the most beneficial features of Lansinoh Therapearl is that it may be used while pumping. When warmed and wrapped around the breast pump flange, the heat promotes milk let-down and reduces the time you need to express. The gentle shape of the pack moulds around the pump without slipping or causing any discomfort. The twin use makes it ideal for mothers who pump frequently, especially if they are experiencing slow flow or difficulty in fully emptying the breast. Always follow heating instructions so the gel is not overheated and does not cause skin injury or pump damage.

Is Lansinoh Therapearl safe to use after breast surgery or weaning?

Lansinoh Therapearl can be safely used after breast surgery or weaning, but you should discuss this with your healthcare provider. Surgery can be alleviated by cold therapy to reduce swelling and pain, but be cautious that the skin is not overly sensitive to the changes in temperature. Cold packs during weaning will soothe the breast as milk production slows down and reduce the chances of engorgement or mastitis. Always wear the cloth covering to protect your skin and limit application to 20 minutes per session to prevent irritation or frostbite from prolonged exposure to cold.
