Product Summary

Lemsip Max All in One Capsules contain a combination of ingredients effective in relieving the symptoms associated with colds and flu, including aches and pains, sore throats, headache, nasal congestion and lowering of temperature.

Paracetamol is a well-known painkiller (analgesic). It is effective against aches and pains, including headaches, and can also reduce a fever (antipyretic).

Guaifenesin is an expectorant that helps to relieve a chesty cough and allow easier expulsion of mucus.

Phenylephrine hydrochloride (nasal decongestant) reduces swelling in the passages of the nose, relieving nasal congestion and reducing the pressure which may cause a headache.

Pharmacist FAQs Answered

Can I Take Lemsip Max with Other Cold or Flu Medicine?

It is not advisable to take Lemsip Max with any other medicine that has paracetamol in it, as this will lead to an overdose, and this will be harmful to your liver. Always read other cold or flu medications to check if they have ingredients, because most have paracetamol or similar equivalents. You should also avoid combining it with other decongestants or products that help with nasal congestion, as this can increase the risk of side effects such as high blood pressure or a fast heartbeat. If you’re already taking medicine for pain, cough, or sleep, ask your pharmacist before using Lemsip Max. Mixing too many medications can be unsafe, even if they appear to be similar. If you're unsure about what you can take together safely, bring your other medication packets to a chemist so they can guide you clearly. Double-checking is always safer, especially if you're unwell or experiencing a combination of symptoms.

What Do I Do If I Accidentally Take Too Many Capsules?

If you have swallowed more than the instructed dose of Lemsip Max capsules, get medical help immediately—even if you don't feel bad. This is necessary since too much paracetamol is damaging to your liver, and you might not feel anything at first. Over eight capsules in 24 hours is an overdose. In this situation, go to the nearest hospital or call emergency services. Try to bring the box or leaflet with you so the doctors can see precisely what you took. Never attempt to "ride it out" or induce vomiting—this won't cure the situation and can make it worse. If you're assisting another person who has taken too much, stay calm with them and seek help immediately. Your doctor or pharmacist should be able to advise you otherwise, but for an overdose, immediate medical assistance applies.

How Long Is It Safe To Take Lemsip Max For?

Lemsip Max is suitable only for temporary relief from flu and cold symptoms. If your symptoms persist for more than 3 days or worsen or increase, stop taking the capsules and consult a doctor or pharmacist. They are useful for a few days to treat symptoms such as fever, sore throat, or congestion, but they will not cure diseases like the flu or a common cold. You take them for too long, and it hides important disease signs, and if you take too much, it will damage your liver or produce other undesirable effects. You shouldn't take them daily either to manage everyday pain or chronic issues. If you need extra help managing symptoms after a few days, there may be a better treatment available based on the underlying cause of your symptoms. Your chemist can recommend something better if you explain how you feel and how long you have been sick.

Can I Take Lemsip Max If I Have Asthma or Respiratory Conditions?

If you have another lung disease or asthma, speak to a pharmacist or doctor before taking Lemsip Max. Some asthma patients find that some medications worsen their symptoms, especially those affecting airways or having an inflammatory effect. An ingredient in Lemsip Max, guaifenesin, is an expectorant that thins mucus so it can be coughed up more easily and is useful when experiencing a chesty cough. However, phenylephrine, the decongestant contained in this drug, can narrow airways and cause breathing to be harder in some people. If your asthma is well-controlled, you should be able to take it without a problem, but do make sure first. Also, watch for new or worsening breathing difficulty after taking it. Stop taking it if you have such symptoms and get medical care. Keep your normal inhalers with you and continue using them according to the instructions when you have a cold or flu.

What Are the Side Effects I Should Watch Out For?

Most people can take Lemsip Max without problems, but some side effects may occur. These are feeling unwell (nausea), a sick feeling, insomnia, dizziness, or a rapid heartbeat. If you experience a skin rash, facial or neck swelling, or have trouble breathing, stop taking the medication and seek emergency help—these are signs of an allergy. High blood pressure, heart disease, and thyroid conditions require individuals to be careful as well because phenylephrine can raise blood pressure or cause an irregular heartbeat. If you notice nervousness, tremors, or insomnia, this may also be caused by the decongestant action. Inform your pharmacist of any side effects, especially if they are unexpected or lasting. Side effects can also be reported online through the Yellow Card Scheme in the UK. This renders medicines safe for everyone to use.
