Pharmacist FAQs Answered

Is Phenergan Elixir appropriate for children under 2 years?

Phenergan Elixir must not be administered to children under the age of 2 because it has the potential to bring on life-threatening breathing issues, even death, from respiratory depression. In case a child under 2 years accidentally ingests the medicine, seek emergency medical help immediately. In children between the ages of 2 and 5, the dose must be strictly controlled, and you must strictly follow the dosage instructions provided by your doctor or pharmacist. Keep drugs like these away from young children and use only as directed. In infants below the age of 5 with allergy or disease, your health counsellor may prescribe a safer alternative.

What should I do if I take too much Phenergan Elixir by mistake?

Taking too much Phenergan Elixir can cause serious side effects. If a child takes too much Phenergan Elixir, he or she could become restless, have abnormal muscle movements, hallucinations, convulsions, have difficulty breathing, or lose consciousness. Adults may become very drowsy, dizzy, have a fast or irregular heartbeat, convulsions, or difficulty breathing. If you suspect that an overdose has been consumed, telephone emergency services immediately and take the bottle of medication or leaflet with you so that the medical team can determine what has been consumed. Don't wait for symptoms to arise — take action quickly.

Will Phenergan Elixir make my skin sensitive to the sun?

Phenergan Elixir may cause your skin to be sensitive to the sun and raise your risk of sunburn or skin reaction even after being outdoors for a short time. This is known as photosensitivity. Avoid strong sunlight and do not go on sunbeds during the time you are taking this medicine. Wear protective clothing and use a high-factor sun cream when outdoors. This action can last for several days after stopping the drug. If you notice redness, itching, or blistering on your skin, stop using Phenergan and contact your pharmacist or doctor.
