Bronchostop Junior comes as an oral syrup. How much you can give to your child depends on their age and will be listed clearly on the product. You can give Bronchostop Junior to your child as and when required, but following the maximum allowed dose will provide the best effect.
Bronchostop Junior may delay the absorption of other medications. As a precautionary measure, you should not give Bronchostop Junior to your child within half an hour to one hour of giving them any other medications. If your child’s symptoms worsen or do not improve after a few days of using Bronchostop Junior, or there are any severe or worrying symptoms, you should speak with their doctor or pharmacist.
Bronchostop Junior contains honey and marshmallow dry extract. It works as a demulcent, which is a medicine that forms a soothing coat over the lining of the throat, which reduces the coughing impulse in dry and tickly coughs. The soothing effect also helps relieve any associated pain and discomfort in the throat from coughing for all types of coughs. However, it is not fully clear how effective Bronchostop Junior is as there is a limited amount of scientific evidence to support its effectiveness. As with all safe over-the-counter treatment options, there will be some people it works well for. If it works for you, then it's a good choice!
Do not give Bronchostop Junior to your child if they are allergic to any of the ingredients listed in the medicine. You should not give Bronchostop Junior to children younger than one. If your child is under three, it would be best to speak with their doctor before giving them Bronchostop Junior to ensure your child does not have a more serious condition. Bronchostop Junior is not the best choice for adults and children aged twelve and above; the original Bronchostop is a more suitable choice.
You should speak with your child’s doctor before giving them Bronchostop Junior if your child has diabetes, is intolerant to fructose, or has difficulty absorbing glucose and galactose.
Most children that take Bronchostop Junior do not experience any side effects. However, sometimes it can have a laxative effect leading to diarrhoea. Rarely, Bronchostop Junior can cause an allergic reaction. If your child develops symptoms of an allergic reaction such as a skin rash, shortness of breath, wheezing, tightness in the chest or throat, or swelling of the tongue, mouth, lips, face, or throat – this is a medical emergency and requires you to call the emergency services (999 in the UK).
